  Dr. Frazier

Laura K. Frazier, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist focused in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. She is an expert in psycho-educational evaluations that identify specific learning disorders, attention deficit, intellectual giftedness and learning strengths and weaknesses.

Dr. Frazier has developed her expertise in treating anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. She specializes in more complex presentations, where more than one condition or factor exists. She uses a combination of approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy with her patients and involves the parents, the school, other providers, and the support network where and when appropriate. Dr. Frazier is working closely with and leveraging the approaches used by Dr. Theresa Shank on cases involving obsessive-compulsive disorder and body-focused repetitive behaviors (such as hair pulling and skin picking).

Dr. Frazier is experienced in conducting psycho-educational assessments. At the University of Oklahoma Counseling Center, she supervised all of the psycho-educational evaluations and trained the pre-doctoral interns on conducting the tests and evaluating test results. Parents and educators value Dr. Frazier’s report results for their clear diagnosis of a learning disability, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, thorough explanation of all factors, including cognitive and psychological issues, that could be affecting a child in school.

Her experience with developmental issues and challenges associated with primary and secondary education is extensive. She is comfortable and experienced in treating substance abuse, trauma, oppositional defiant disorder, and eating disorders. Dr. Frazier has worked with LGBT issues, self-injury behavior (such as ‘cutting’), and psychological issues involving mental control and flexibility which emerge in secondary and college years. Her past positions included supporting college campuses in mental health issues and she is experienced with the issues related to that population.

Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Frazier worked as an elementary school counselor in the public school system, providing students with educational planning and personal-social development. She has experience treating ‘school refusal’ and insights into the school policies and procedures to manage this condition and support the student.

Dr. Frazier’s approach includes educating the parents, schools, and other providers as appropriate. She regularly consults with pediatricians, primary care physicians, and psychiatrists to coordinate care and achieve maximum benefit for the client. Pediatricians trust her. When symptoms interfere with functioning in school, Dr. Frazier consults with school personnel on intervention techniques to enable the student to progress through the school day as smoothly as possible.

With Dr. Labellarte, Dr. Frazier will be focusing on therapeutic issues associated with Dysautonomia (POTS) patients. Dr. Frazier recognizes this disease and understands the treatment, the personality dimensions and behaviors that benefit from cognitive behavior therapy. She is committed to making a difference with this population.

Dr. Frazier received her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oklahoma. She completed her pre-doctoral internship with the Oklahoma Health Consortium, which included rotations in neuropsychology and behavioral health. Dr. Frazier is a Maryland native, and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Maryland.
